Black Rock Bandit

The Black Rock Bandit art car is a dream created by myself and just a few friends. Named after an indigenous American trickster god, Azeban can be found roaming the desert every year at Black Rock city.

The car features over 10,000 LEDs, nearly entirely soldered by yours truly. The lighting is custom Arduino software running off of a Teensy Arduino control system. There are 6 Teensys that run the programed patterns for the entire car, communicating over an ethernet control hub using ArtNet.

We first debuted the car in 2017, and was immediately featured in USAToday that year, and in 2019.
